2015 Recipients

The CindyMackie Foundation traveled to York, Rock Hill and Chester, SC on Friday, February 13th 2015- to present awards in the form of a Higher Education Grant or Mackie Grant. Please see below for details on each recipient, along with a photo of each.

In 5 years, the CindyMackie Foundation has awarded more than $85,000 in scholarships and grants! We want to thank all of our generous donors and supporters for making such a difference in the lives of children and adults across North and South Carolina!!

Never forget Cindy’s favorite mantra, “You can be anything you want to be!”

Our first stop was York Comprehensive High School to present a Higher Education Grant to Lauren Jones. Lauren will attend Winthrop University to major in both English Literature and Spanish. Because of her love of reading, her goal is to become a librarian. While volunteering at the York County Library, she noticed the lack of diversity in the Children’s Literacy Department. Since the Hispanic population continues to grow in her community, this concerns her. At Winthrop she will work to fine tune her knowledge of the English language as well as develop the communication skills needed to break down language barriers and reach both English and Spanish speaking children.

Congratulations Lauren!

Our second stop was to the Academy Christian School in Rock Hill. This new and growing school of 40 students, grades K-12 expressed a desperate need for a library on campus. Currently the school untilizes a Book Mobile that comes only twice a month. Students would love to have multiple facets of books readily available on campus. The school administrators believe that reading is the foundation of all learning. The CindyMackie Foundation agrees and hopes that the Mackie grant presented will help make their dream a reality!

Our last stop of the day was The Academy for Teaching and Learning in Chester, SC. This is the 3rd year we have presented a Mackie grant to this school. And we are thrilled with the extraordinary progress of The CindyMackie Foundation Literacy and Performing Arts Center. Previous to our sponsorship, this charter school had no library on campus. Your generous donations are making a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of children, their families and the faculty of this amazing school! Congratulations to ATL and thank you to everyone who contributes to continuing Cindy and Mackie’s legacies!
